Project #1307: Living Above Zero

To live above zero means to live in a dwelling that generates as much energy as needed, for those who live there, to function.  The following focuses on the how to transform an existing apartment, located in the Tenderloin District of San Francisco, into a net-zero energy dwelling.  Some strategies include improving the thermal envelope of the building, adding wind turbines and PV panels on the roof to take advantage of the city’s ocean breezes, and implementing energy efficient appliances.  (Credit: Julie Rahilly, Victoria Lowell)
